About Herman Rubin

Herman was born in Petersburg, Virginia in October of 1953. After spending the first seven years between Petersburg and a farm in Middleburg, his family moved to Nashville for a couple of years. They eventually arrived in Canton in the summer of 1964, where Herman has spent the majority of his life.

Herman's first experience with piano tuning came around the age of 15, but it would take another 12 years for him to make it a full-time profession. During that time, Herman earned a Bachelor of Science in speech from Kent State University. He flirted briefly with a career in radio broadcasting. He also developed an affinity for public speaking, spending considerable time as a member of Toastmasters International.

After radio broadcasting, Herman decided it was time to pursue his piano tuning career. He spent 20 months at the Emil B. Fries Piano Hospital and Training Center, located in Vancouver Washington. This school was started by a blind tuner to train the blind to become piano tuners and repair technicians. With the exception of a driver, receptionist and refinisher, the Piano Hospital and Training Center exclusively employs blind instructors and administrative staff.

Herman returned home in 1979, and officially opened for business in January of 1980. His business remains active to this day.
